What does “hand block printed” mean?

Step one

A motif is carved into wood

Each pattern begins as a block of wood, carved by hand into a single repeating motif.

Step two

The block meets the cloth

The block is dipped in dye and pressed onto thick cotton — one impression at a time, across the whole length of fabric.

Step three

Variation stays in

Pressure and dye vary slightly with every impression. That small drift between pieces is the signature of the craft, not a defect.
